Major accomplishments in the Franklin County Schools include expansion of Tech Prep and the implementation of the ABCs program legislated by the North Carolina General Assembly. Advanced educational opportunities are available locally at Louisburg College, a highly regarded junior college, and at the Franklin County Campus of the Vance-Granville Community College. Major universities are within commuting distance of Franklin County.

Franklin County has a full complement of medical services and providers. Franklin Regional Medical Center, selected as one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the United States in 1995 and 1996, is an 85-bed, acute care medical/surgical hospital with a 24-hour, fully staffed emergency department. In addition to Franklin Regional Medical Center, nationally known university medical centers are located close-by in the Raleigh/Durham area, and include Duke University Medical Center and UNC-Chapel Hill University Medical Center.
